IAMS™ Premium Protection™ Mature Adult Dog Food Review

The following review of IAMS™ Premium Protection™ Mature Adult dry dog food covers the information you will need to decide if this is the right food for your mature dog.

You know that there are all kinds of things that make your dog unique. There are also a lot of factors that your dog has in common with a lot of other canine pets. The fact is that dogs’ nutritional needs vary from one breed to the next. These needs also change as a dog matures. As it gets older, its metabolism slows and its body functions may not work as accurately. Since breed plays a large role in how quickly a dog begins to age, these factors also overlap.

As a dog owner, you want to do everything you can to keep your dog healthy and feeling good and to extend its life for as long as possible. One of the most effective things you can do to accomplish these goals is to understand which type of dog food is best for your dog. Determining that depends on the ingredients, the ratio of protein to fat, and what the ingredients mean to your dog.

What It Is

A Note on Meat Byproducts

There has been a lot of controversy over the use of meat byproducts. This simply means that the food uses bone, stomach, brains, and other parts of animals in the food. Parts of animals that will put dogs at risk of health conditions, such as mad cow disease, are not permitted for use in pet food. Meat byproducts are actually a good source of protein. Instead of worrying over the source of the meat, it is more important to look at the percentage of protein and the additional nutrients in the food.

All dog foods should meet the minimum standards of at least 10% protein, 5.5% fat, and 2.5% crude fiber. This dog food contains significantly more of these vital ingredients for the ultimate nutrition for your aging dog.
